It's my turn to dare this week!

Everything we buy has packaging, some of it excessive, some of it beautifully designed. Tags, labels, stickers... all sorts of bits and bobs that we can recycle onto cards.

I dare you to make a card using a tag, label, sticker or anything else you can find, thats from packaging and would normally end up in the bin. Of course you can ink it, change it, distress it and add anything else you like!

If you're feeling brave, I DOUBLE DARE you to make it a card for a man!


Here's what I came up with at 11pm last night, nothing like a deadline to get the creativity going!
I used a couple of primark t shirt tags. I love the fact they're made of chipboard. I did have a go an tripple embossing them for a shiny look but it turns out they have a plastic coating, which melted on the second layer and resulted in a big gloopy mess. Melted UTEE does not come out of jeans, luckily they're scruffy ones anyway!

The background is a plastic anti static wrapper that had some pc part or other in it, wrapped round a piece of white card. The back tag is decorated with a barcode from rubons, which rubbed on too! The front tag has happy birthday printed with Barcode Font onto card and layered. A little bit of ribbon, some papermania brads and that's it!

I'm quite into this mono look at the moment, its fun using black and white and just playing with the lay out.

More embossing

Thank you all for your comments about my embossing cards, I loved doing the dare and its so nice that you've taken the time to visit and comment on my cards. I have to say I'm still being an awful blogger, days and weeks are passing so quickly and there's so much to do. Plus I'm not getting enough time to sit down and read all the blogs. I miss just having time! Bit of a lack of time theme running at the moment eh!

The fun day last Saturday was, well, FUN! It was great showing people how to make cards and I think my highlight had to be the wee girl of about three who stamped the front back and insides of her card all over, brilliant! I did almost have to prize the stamp from her at the end, but instead cunningly distracted her with sticking a message on. She was so proud of her creation, it was absolutely priceless. I think some Dad's got some real works of Art on Sunday.

I have been managing to fit a bit of creative time in too, just not getting any photo's taken, so to prove I'm still making, here's some cards I've done recently with my new babies, I mean, my cuttlebug embossing folders.
More sanding and I just love these colours together. I'm a 70's child through and through.

Remember those metallic rub ons you bought years ago and get left at the bottom of a drawer, well they're ace on this embossed surface
Gold brilliance inkpad over a debossed pattern, this one started as a mistake as its one sided card and I put it in the wrong way, but actually I really like it.

And a cute fairy cake to finish! And a final confession, Ive ordered a cuttlebug!!!! Yes I know the bigshot does everything the cuttlebug does but my liitle green machine's going to be so much more portable, so much more practical for classes. Thats my line and I'm sticking to it!

Another busy week in the land of soon to be Mrs Reid. Lots going on and no time to blog it, wah!
Anyway, onto this weeks dare...What a fantastic challenge Lythan set for this weeks Daring Cardmakers Dare! Made even better by the fact I now have 12 of the gorgeous big Cuttlebug embossing folders, totally droolable! I love the fact its instant embossing, none of this spending 3 hours at a lightbox, then inking or chalking it and realising you preferred it before! Here's my cards.

With both these cards I used Cuttlebug Embossing folders, white core card and sandpaper. I love the distressed look it gives when the white core comes through. It looks great on metallic card too.That's all from me today, Ive got a drop in workshop to finish preparing for tomorrow so it's all go!

Celestial

Ok, how did it get to be the 8th of June! The weeks are flying past and theres so much to do. Finally got the first batch of wedding invites written and in the post, I'm doing it in stages as doing them all in one go was proving impossible. I've been mega busy, had my dress alterations done and I'm going back later on, so exciting! I've even been making cards, but just haven't had a moment to photograph and blog them...

Last Sunday I went to the Stamp Fair in Edinburgh with the fantastically talented Lynne, unfortunately we spent a couple of hours parked on the motorway as there were mahoosive queue's on the Forth Road Bridge but luckily we're both expert craft shoppers and we used our precious 75 minutes of shopping time wisely! How lovely are the new cuttlebug embossing folders, stocked up on a good few of them, some gorgeous stamps and a few pretty brads. Of course I mean to take a pic to share but time... well... it's in short supply! So instead I'll share the bits as I use them.

Onto this weeks fabulous Dare set by Keryn, it certainly got me thinking, and using some of those new goodies...
I used my Gorgeous new Penny Black clear alphabet stamps, they're just so funky and I know I'm going to use them loads, A cuttlebug Embossing folder to texture the centre of the sun which I doodled on to match the alpha, and freehand sun rays. All on a background of Blonde Moments Spring Fling paper. Plus the glue was actually dry on the card by the time the dare was launched, which is a first for a few weeks!

I'm hoping to spend a couple of hours in the garden this afternoon and get rid of some of the weeds, got to protect those wedding flowers. I might even take some pics when I'm done.

I can see Clearly

It's Kel's turn to set the dare for this Weeks Daring Cardmakers Dare and what a fab one it is! To use Acetate, vellum or something clear and see through ish, fantastic. I left it very late this week, I had plans to do it last night after work but then just ended up flopping on the sofa instead. Luckily I woke up at 5.30 am (so very unlike me!) with an idea and got the sewing machine out to try and sew quietly, totally impossible but I think I may have just got away with it. It could have been worse, my other idea involved hundreds of eyelets!
I used printable acetate, the stuff which has a slightly rougher side and is much easier to stamp on, my Autumn Leaves Swirl stamps and Brilliance white ink. I then sewed it onto a plain black textured card, added ribbon, Dunhelm bloom in black and some ickle tags on the sides. The greeting in the middle is another one of those fantastic cuttlebug embossing folders, inked to make it stand out. I'm quite pleased with the overall effect, I like the contrast between the shiny and the matt. The cards this week on the DCM blog are amazing and all so different and its great to see that loads of you are joining in and sharing your creations. Forgive me I haven't had time to go and look round all the blogs yet but I hope to catch up very soon.
