Christmas boxes & Randomness

I've been making these dinky boxes for a while now, the perfect way to wrap diddy things. This one's inspired by a tutorial on Splitcoast but I made up my own measurements cause they're deigned for american sized paper. Actually I didn't measure at all, just guessed the lines on my scoreboard and it worked. I can do a 'how I do them' if anyone gets stuck.
This one is inspired by Lauren, but again, I adapted it to my scoreboard for ease. Both are made from one sheet of A4 card, printed with Pink Petticoat and the edges trimmed (my laser wont do edge to edge printing) and finished off with ribbon. Now I'm not going to tell you what's going in them incase you're getting one lol.
I've been tagged by the lovely Kim, 7 random facts! This is a difficult one, m sure I've done it before so I'll try to think of another load of random facts.

  1. I love a real log fire, it really makes a house a home for me, I love the smell of burning peat too, reminds me of growing up on the island where we dug our own peat.
  2. I went to Art college in Aberdeen and got a degree in Design and Craft - 3D design. I made lamps from clear cast resin, I'll have to share some pics sometime - they're prints though as we used film then so I'll need to get the scanner out.
  3. I'd love to get into scrapping but I just haven't been able to yet. I have put our wedding album together now though, no decoration just a print a page - so I may scrap some of those pics soon.
  4. I am not named after the Fleetwood Mac song Rhiannon, I was born before it was released... just!
  5. I can't abide this 80's fashion trend, I like flares and funky 70's patterns and remember skin tight jeans with zips on the ankles first time round. Yeuuuch!
  6. I love snow, it brings out the big kid in me, not too keen on driving in it though.
  7. I'm a last minute minnie and have my own unique organisation system which looks chaotic but there is method in my mess somewhere!
If you're reading this and haven't done it... YOU'RE TAGGED!!!

Eeeek!

Yep, I had one of those scary moments when I realised its only about 5 weeks til Christmas, Panic stations! So yesterday I went for it and managed to make 25 Christmas cards, all similar but different, and I'm feeling a lot less stressed out about it now!

All papers are DCWV and all images are pink petticoat watercoloured in. And here's my best crochet work for all those who think I've mastered it, I so haven't lol.

Got to go and find out who's been kicked of Strictly Come Dancing.... bye for now xx

Golden Brown

It's Keryn's turn this week to set the dare, and it's to use golden highlights. You know how you go through phases with colours, well gold's not been one of my colours recently so I found this a real challenge. In the end I picked brown to go with the gold and they work really well togetherIt's an olde gold rather than a bright bling one and I like the subtleness of it.

Other exciting news, I've learnt to crochet! I found it really hard only having one needle, not that I would count myself as a knitter since I can only do plain stitch at the moment. So far I have made lots of tangled bits of wool with lumpy bits that the cats love playing with but I've also managed to make a sort of square, okay it looses stitches and gets thinner but its a start. I'm going to try this pattern next and see if I can make a flower!

and CUT!!!

Hooray an escape from Christmas, (is anyone else a bit fed up of crackers, tinsel and excessively wrapped toiletries filling the shelves?) Anyway, this weeks dare is set by Tracie, and it is to use handcutting on a card, any theme too so I get to escape the festive frenzy (not that I don't like it, but Decembers the time for Christmas...grump...mutter...moan...)

This card is totally inspired by, but not using any, Rusy Pickle pirate papers I got at the SECC. Somehow they just didn't work when I put them with the lettering so they're back on the shelf for stroking.
The only thing that isn't handcut is the card blank. I used stamps by Hero Arts and StudioG, Prima flowers, papermania brads, a skull from the same font as I used before about a month ago and doodling.

Penny Black alpha stamps here for the congratulations, whispers colouring pens (I'm sure theres a more grown up name but hey...), doodled borders and Pink Petticoat paper. I didn't feel scared doodling direct onto the PP paper cause I knew I could always print another sheet if I mucked it up! Didn't cut the letters individually this time though.

I quite like handcutting really, I use my alphabet stamps and cut them out more now even if it does take longer than using my dies. Thanks for stopping by my blog, have a crafty day.

Rhi :)

Monday monday

Didn't it get dark early this evening, I don't know why it came as a shock but it always does. Ahh well, not long til spring and plenty of crafting time meanwhile. Here's a couple of things I made over the weekend, both for Just Bex challenges and using scrummy Pink Petticoat papers. First a swing card, I just love these papers, so funky.

Next I turned this box...
Into this! Much prettier. I can't say Im a huge fan of altered stuff as practical storage, in my experience things decorated with blooms and ribbon seem to fall apart very quickly in my craft room. Maybe I expect too much from my storage lol. Still, these washing tablet boxes have a fab click shut action cause of the cardboard tabs inside so I reckon I will actually use this, probably to take bits and pieces to classes.

See you tomorrow for a fab Little Extra challenge from the Daring Cardmakers!

CPS 34

I'm late with the CPS sketch, the next one's already announced but it's getting harder and harder to get the light to take pics. I'm going to have to invest in a photo tent, anyone got one, any recommendations welcome!

Papers by Pink Petticoat, stamps by doodlebug, purple onion and ribbon from little silver hat or ribbon oasis, can't remember which cause I have so much ribbon! Scallops with BG notch tool and Fiskars scissors, looking at it now I think I'd make the scallops the same if I was doing it again but I thought I'd try the two different ones together.

I'm really enjoying making C6 cards with the fold on the short edge, its good to have a change from square!

Thanks for looking!
